Dear Disgruntl;Yes new piercings have to stay in 24/7 for approx 6 to 8 weeks. Not sure if you'll be getting a stud or a ring, the person who pierces it for you should advise. They usually say to rotate the ring/stud at least twice a day....I don't know whay they say about earrings these days, but I cleaned my nasal piercing with Bactine on a Q tip. Soak one end and dab around the front of your ear, then soak the other end and do the back of your ear. They may also tell you to use something like polysporin to help heal it. The cleaning process should be done twice a day also, once in the morning, and once maybe before you go to bed or after your shower to clean away soap, because it can irritate a new piercing. Just take good care of it and you shouldn't have any problem with it.Good luck!

When I got my first pierced my ear, they said to keep it in for at least a month. Clean the earring with rubbiing alcohol a few times a week to avoid an invention.
After a few weeks, you can change it up to a different earring. I started with a diamond in my left ear, then a few months later got another one in the right ear. I now have a silver hoop in each ear. I would recommend getting an earring each ear & get it done at the same time. It does look a lot cooler.

get both pierced. one will make you look gay. they'll tell you how long to keep it in, the kind they use to pierce it will be fine to use in the shower, sleep w/, etc. i think you keep em in for about 5 months to preserve the hole. after that you just do what you want, but if you want to keep the piercing dont leave the hole w/o any rings for too long or the hole will close up. dont go more than a week w/o a ring in them. IF your ear feels sore or looks reddish, it might be a sign of infection. use rubbing alcohol for this. but after you get it pierced, it will be a little red for a week or so, thats pretty common.

you can get your ear pierced on whichever side you feel fits you best (it's not really a sexual preference indicator) you do need to keep the original jewelry in for about 4 months. infection comes about when you don't take care of your piercing properly. You don't need to wash it 3 times a day, that can actually be bad for it. once or twice daily with regular sea salt soaks will keep your piercing healthy and friendly :D also, make sure you go to an actual piercing parlor that pierces with a needle. don't go to a mall store, they'll most likely use a gun which can do horrible things to your ears.
check out www.bmezine.com and www.bodyartforms.com (the forum there) for tons of information on healing processes, etc.

I think you're suppost to leave it in for 2-3 weeks (for a girl @ least)You can shower and sleep with it in. No offense but earrings for guys I find strange. Will you want to have an earring when you're an adult?

when you get it pierced make sure its from a licensed professional. when u do turn it everyday to keep the skin from closing up around the ring. don't take it out for like 2-3 weeks unless you r just replacing it. make sure you clean it constantly with alcohol.

if you take it out at first it will grow over. You need to clean it with something (peroxide) every once in a while. Do not take it out to sleep, yit may grow over. You could take it out when you shower, that seems like a hassel though. It wont hurt to keep it in all the time (as long as it is not huge and will tear when you sleep)

Im pretty sure you have to keep a ring in for up to 2-3 weeks otherwise it will start healing up again
just make sure to get it on the correct side
according to sexual preference. Thought I'd mention it as I know someone who didnt check....

you dont take it out to sleep or shower, you actually dont ever take it out, when you first get it done, you have to wait a while before you are allowed to remove it ( it hink its like 2 mnths or something) it shouldnt get infected as long as you take care of it like the piercer tells you to. i have several holes in my ears and ive had them for a long time, i hardly ever wear earings but if i want to, they havent grown over.
