Well, all the rain that happens in the spring makes the sun grow. As the sun grows is gives out more light. Since light can't get brighter it has to get longer. Thus, near the end of the summer when all the rain drys up the sun starts to shrink, and thats when the days get shorter.

in the winter the days are shorter and the night are longer. Where as in the summer the days are longer and the nights are shorter. It's to do with the tilt of the Earth to the sun that is how we get our seasons
