He hasn't. People are offended by him because he tells the truth. The truth hurts their egos.

During ESPN's 9/28/03 broadcast of their NFL Countdown program, Limbaugh was talking about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who is black:

Limbaugh: "I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

On the August 23 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio program, Rush Limbaugh suggested that the competition in a new season of CBS' reality TV program Survivor, in which contestants are reportedly divided into competing "tribes" by ethnicity, "is not going to be fair if there's a lot of water events." In support of this assertion, he cited a March 2 HealthDay article reporting that "young blacks -- especially males -- are much more likely to drown in pools than whites."

Limbaugh also stated that there "are many characteristics ... that you would think would give [the African-American tribe] the lead, and the heads up in terms of skill and athleticism and so forth." He also stated that "our early money" is on "the Hispanic tribe" -- which he said could include "a Cuban," "a Nicaraguan," or "a Mexican or two" -- provided they don't "start fighting for supremacy amongst themselves." Limbaugh added that Hispanics have "probably shown the most survival tactics," that they "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders" and that they can "do it without water for a long time, they don't get apprehended, and they will do things other people won't do."

Limbaugh also asserted that "the Asian-American tribe" -- whom he called "the brainiacs of the bunch" -- "probably will outsmart everybody," but while "intelligence is one thing ... raw, native understanding of the land -- this is probably why the Native Americans were excluded, because they were at one with the land and they would probably have an unfair advantage."

Rush maintains that Donovan McNabb is overrated. This is certainly his opinion. However, Rush Limbaugh went on to say,
"the media has been very desirous of a black quarterback to do well".

The fact of the matter is while McNabb is not doing well this season, he was runner-up for the MVP award in 2000 and has led the Eagles to two straight conference championship games. This accomplishment has nothing to do with the media or the fact McNabb is black. Rush's statement is obviously demeaning to McNabb and the media. Rush would also do well to read a Philadelphia paper where the fans and sports writers are not propping up McNabb.

Instead of simply apologizing, Rush made things even worse for himself by adding the following...

" "the sports media, being liberals just like liberal media is elsewhere, have a desire that black quarterbacks excel and do very well so that their claims that blacks are being denied opportunity can be validated."

the mcnabb thing is the big one... if you follow football... and the stat line... you can see that he's pretty good... ESPECIALLY looking at the recievers he's had (ick)...

statistcally and games won, you would almost have to put him in the top 5 over the past 5 years...

even this past year, McNabb had the best numbers in the league until he got hurt...
