We live in the 21st century. No slavery, very little direct racism, and it seems like African-Americans tend to pull out the racism card when they don't get what they want. An black loses out on a job opportunity to a white person? Automatically, they assume that the company discriminates against "people of color". But who are they kidding? African-Americans have PROVEN to be just as intelligent and hardworking as any other ethnicity, and everybody knows that. Few people will actually discriminate against them anymore. Can't they realize that sometimes they don't win due to bad luck, a lack of legitimate qualifications, and other non-discriminating factors before they scream racism? Now, I know most African Americans aren't like this, but the uneducated, unmotivated ones often are. You could say the same goes for white people, but they can't exactly scream "racism!" When will everyone realize that slavery is long gone? No one's picking cotton anymore. Get over it, shall we?

Japanese people were prosecuted just fifty, sixty years ago, but look at how most of them prosper. The same goes for Jewish people. I just wish some African-Americans would realize that they have the exact same opportunities as white people, and that discrimination against them is ILLEGAL, even. I also think that they should not get scholarships just because they are black. If anything, give them scholarships if they come from an impoverished background. I know that because I'm not being PC, this question will get a lot of backlash. But someone needs to speak the truth.

Remember, I know most African Americans don't do this, but too many do. Including most that I know personally.

I see a lot of you are saying "You are ignorant to what a black person's life is like". So are you saying that their lives are collectively different than white people? This is what I'm complaining about. You people act like they're born victims, and they're not. So it's you guys who are grouping blacks together.

Not all people play the race card. Even the uneducated don't do as much as you assume. I do see black people call a lot of things racist or discrimination; I'm not going to sit here and say it does not exist, but consider other races. What about women who play the sexism card whenever a man gets a job that she was over qualified for? Or when a fat person doesn't get a job at a high fashion store, when they feel they would be perfect for it? There are many ways people blame others for their misfortunes. And African Americans aren’t even the worst ones. Look beyond your daily life and consider other cultures. I am black; I don't blame anyone for my own misfortunes. I don't want nor expect anything from anyone because of my skin color. And I am sick and tired of people (white and black or anything) Complaining about racism all the damn time. We can't change what race we are... and asking biased questions on yahoo answers is not helping anyone’s mindset.

It is funny to me how non-black people are quick to try to tell black people that they experience little or no racism now days, how could they possibly know that??? Just because slavery is gone does not mean there is no racism how did you come up with that and also why would you even bring slavery up. Yes slavery is long gone but let's be real it has not been that long since we have gotten so called equal rights... and don't tell me it has been because my mother and father experienced the inequalities at the hands of this government and lots of it's narrow minded white citizens.... it is strange to me that the people who originally caused the problems are now trying to call foul... ps I see more white people assuming that someone got a job based on skin color more than I see anyone else complaning...seems to me that that too many of you still think that you are somehow superior and that the rest of us only get things through "extra help"

Believe it or not racism is still in this country. Just because whites aren't exactly running calling us the n-word, doesn't mean that their not showing signs of racism. Now I'll admit very few blacks tend to go crazy with it. But the majority of the time its true. Don't blame blacks for calling you guys out, blame the whites who are obviously racist.

It legitimizes failure, at least in their eyes. People of all races do it in one way or another. I want to know why blacks can call each other ****** when they are acting trashy, but I can't because I'm not black. Isn't it racist for them to say, in effect, "You can't do that because your skin is not the same color as mine?" See how Yahoo censors the word? Now I'll type whitey and cracker. Why don't those words get censored?

That's a load of crap! Not every black person is running around crying about racism. You are the ignorant one if that is what you think. Racism still is exists but it's so subtle how could you run around playing the race card as far as in corporate america, schools, and other public domains.

Of course you're going to get a lot of flack from the "we're saying that you're grouping everyone together so we don't have to actually answer the question intelligently" weenies. They don't matter--if they had the guts to have actual opinions, they wouldn't need to hide behind that cop-out statement. Ignore them.
I think you are absolutely right. I tried to start a discussion about this very thing a couple of months ago, and from the uproar I received, you would have thought I skinned and ate the Baby Jesus. See, I wanted to help society realize what you just said, that racism only exists in the minds of persons who victimize themselves, but apparently people hold on to their status as "victim" as long as they can. It's like a badge to them. It seems as if the people who scream racism are proud of it, like they've just received their membership into the discriminatee club.
I really thought that I could help change the mindset of these groups, but what I found out was that they don't want to change. Their very identities are wrapped up in being victimized. If they had to interact with the world on an even playing field, I don't think they could cope.

Yet again no one brings up slavery on here but White people.
At home I can not think of one time my family and I have had a serious discussion about slavery or the so called "man"
You can not say very little racism exist because it does. You might not have experienced this or even care to notice. This race card so many white people complain about apparently does not work, and I think I lost mine because Iv never seen one.

Black individuals and black Africans do no longer could desire to unite no person says this could desire to be yet i think of actual everyone could desire to get alongside. i think of minorities are envisioned with the help of society to adhere together against the standard public so some could think of on racial strains consequently believing the conflict is fairly a racial one. Black individuals can perceive with Africa in that their ancestry predominately got here from there between 391 - one hundred fifty years in the past. comparable as white individuals can perceive with Europe by way of their ancestry. additionally cultural impacts from the two Africa & Europe heavily influced the two communities to create the unique cultures of u.s..

You are truly uneducated. You are ignorant to what it is like to be black so why would you bother making these claims. All of the information you have stated isn't true, and I don't know where you got it from. Anyway, discrimination is so prevalent that only someone blind wouldn't see it. Have you ever seen the movie Crash? Anyway, I agree that people do scream racism too much, but still, clearly many times the people they accuse are.

You say that there is little direct racism - how can you know what an entire race is facing. I don't think you should make generalizations like this, as many still face racism and this doesn't help matters.
