I am in a very good place for employment. This area is high tech and has no surplus workers. I know how to use computers, of course, and have plenty of graduate education with impressive degrees. All but one (library science and I am not interested now) are dated now. With all the buildings of high tech companies here in my neighborhood, you rarely here of a job opening, which is par for the course. What types of positions might be needed and available in these companies for a retired man. I do not need benefits except days off and can work temp, pt, nights, whatever. Maybe I should work for myself? Doing what? Clean record in all respects too.
Would like just ideas if you know something about the subject, but not too many cute answers from those trying to get a simple 2 pts.

It depends on how you were using the technology in your last job. You could always ask for an internship that would lead to a permanent on call or part time job.

These are somewhat stressful jobs though, a retirement job is supposed to be laid back and your free time is supposed to get more exciting right?. I used to work in social services (group homes for the mentally ill/mentally retarded) and worked with a lot of retired people who were very happy with it. Theyre everywhere and you dont usually need experience.

The competition is tough out there and even though you have the degrees and experience, do you really want to go back to the dog eat dog world? I would suggest a nice janitor position in a school...summers off..or yes, a substitute teacher is another great idea. Or you can work for a temp. agency working in the mailroom or rec'g where you're days go fast and you'll meet plenty of people.

Check with your employment agencies, here where I live, they have one of retired folk just like us. Companies actually are finding that older employees make better employees than they thought.
Me I am starting a gold mine, but If I need to I will go find me a part time job thru these folks. You also might check out "RGIS" they hire people for inventory work and is part time. I work for them in the winters.
Good luck
