I own a shop, and have built many small blocks over the years. The heads you are talking about is called the 305 torquer heads. They have 58cc combustion chambers 200cc runners, and 1.94 & 1.50 valves in them. A stock 350 Chevy cylinder head has 76cc combustion chambers and 1.94 &1.50 valves. Think of it as packing dinamite, the smaller the area of the explosion the more power will come from the blast. One can get the compression too high, and slow the engine down, and/or break pistons from detonation or spark knock. The 305 heads are seen by some people as the cheap way to make power, but the truth is; they get the compression up, but the area for the valves to work is too small, and they just don't flow good on an engine with a 4 inch bore. They will over hang, and run good for a week or two, and then they will start to spark knock so bad that you can't get enough timing out of the engine to make much power. Been there and done that. Get a set of Vortec heads, and a good intake if you want to make some power. The torquer heads work great on the smaller bored 265-307 engines because of the big valves, but not all 305 heads has the big valves, so know what you are doing, or you will make it run awful. Go to a speed shop where they build engines, and talk to a machanist about the 305 heads. You may be suprised at what you will learn.
Glad to help out, good luck!!!

^^ what he said except they also came out with a HO head which is a high output head found on the 80s maros firechickens....etcc..They just make your compression go up..on a 350...in most cases. The big bore size combined with smaller cube heads will just hold the motor up...in other words it will be a dog.

they all was closed chamber heads on them, actually better than the 350 heads, and you had more room to expand them if needed, but all of those was closed chamber and it gave them more compression, that's the difference in them, good luck.
