what are the safe areas to live in downtown San Diego since I do not have a car and don't want to buy one as long as the grocery and shopping is close by? are there any websites to find a room- mate ? I don't have a job - so would be looking for a job as well - how is the job market out there - would consider any managerial position ? Thanks much in advance. Plz. Help.

craigslist and roomates.com are the best to search for roomates..
rent for a nice new 1 bedroom condo downtown runs about $1600. the nicest areas to live downtown are on 4th or 5th street west of Broadway, either in the gaslamp or little italy areas. theres plenty of shops, grocery stores, restaurants, clubs etc, and its very clean down there. also there is a mall downtown with high end stores on 4th street with plenty of retail management positions if you like that line of work.
the rail system also runs downtown and can take you all over san diego. it doesnt run through hillcrest so its harder to get around from there.

Try oodle backpage and craigslist. Most of downtown around Gaslamp is really nice and the Ralphs grocery is nearby. Job market is good in San Diego. You can use the trolley which is very convenient when you live in downtown. You can get some info on http://citydigest.net too. Good luck in your search. Note the sandiego.gov site too for some official city info.

The cost of living is much less, housing is about half the cost, for one. Utilities would be half as our climate is very mild. Downtown is fine in parts, better in Uptown/ Hillcrest , a great area, everything is close, grocery, restaurants, clubs, etc and is about a 5 minute bus ride to downtown, if you are working there. I would use craigslist.com for both housing/ room mates as well as jobs.
