I imagine that you are pregnant, that's why you were told to take folic acid.
Folic acid is a B vitamin. It is used in our bodies to make new cells. If a woman has enough folic acid in her body before she is pregnant, it can help prevent major birth defects of her baby’s brain and spine.
Every woman needs folic acid for the healthy new cells her body makes every day . . . even if she is not planning to get pregnant.

Me too. This is very common in pregnancy. I just take them every day with my prenatal vitamins. Mine are small and yellow. I get them at the pharmacy. Sorry if I'm rambling, but I'm not sure what you question is. If the question is , " is that common" then the answer is yes. I would say most doctors tell thier pregnant patients to take a folic acid tablet.

Take a vitamin with folic acid every day if you are trying to concieve and once pregnant take pre natals they have the folic acid in them. This helps to prevent birth defects.

It also helps greatly in preventing neural tube defects when you already are pregnant.
Take some prenatal vitamins that contain 400-600 mcg folic acid. There are several over the counter varieties that meet this requirement.

Folic acid prior to pregnancy and during it cuts down on the chances that your baby will have certain birth defects such as spina bifida!

if you're trying trying to conceive or if you're pregnant, you should be taking folic acid. folic acid supposedly plays a huge role in preventing certain birth defects (like spina bifida and autism).
