As you might know, Harry is an orphan. At the very beginning of book 1, we find the book speaking of his uncle and aunt who live in England. Harry Potter does not arrive on their door step until the end of the chapter. As the book goes on, we learn that Harry is a wizard and that his parents were killed by Voldemort- the evil wizard that did many treacherous things at the time. Apparently. Voldemort tried to kill Harry. If you read book 5, it states that Voldemort attempted to kill Harry because there was a prophecy about him. Anyways, Voldemort tries to kill Harry and loses about all of his powers and becomes weak. So, Harry is famous for stopping Voldemort in the wizarding world, but is nothing but a mere boy in the muggle world.

11 years ago a dark wizard murderer vanished after his killing spree was abruptly ended by a tiny baby, for no apparent reason. the orphaned boy was taken to live with unpleasent relatives, who never told him about the incident, his parents, or who is was.... until one day he receives a letter, and long story short, learns he is a wizard.. and not only a wizard, but a famous wizard because of what happened when he was a baby.

The dark wizard Voldemort (You-know-who) however, is all but vanished.. and gets closer to a return as the books go on.
