If an"emo" kid does well at school will all his/her friends become even more disfunctional or is school-work OK as long a you promise to be depressed while your doing it?

Wow, this "emo" thing has gotten WAY out of hand! Just be yourself! Jessica says it best I think; "emo" kids are that way because they have a reason to be. If you don't have a reason, it's just a put-on, like the "goth" label was long after I realized I must have been "goth" in high school (wore black, had a very bad attitude, greasy hair, generally Snape-like). But the label never occurred to me until 10 years after the fact. The coolest kids deal with their situations with style and originality and don't try to fit themselves into someone else's mold. They make the best of what they have and try to be the best people they can be.

ok...if u have to tell yourself to be depressed or only do things that make u fail at life, than ur not really emo, you're just a wanna be. Most of my friends are emo, that doesn't mean that all they do is cut themselves and wine about their life. They get excellent grades in school, the have their own place and they all have jobs. Being emo means that you are an outsider, you dont hang out with the popular kids, and sure, you wear black. But the reason why REAL emo kids are emo is because their life is hell. They've had a very bad childhood and their parents aren't there for them. But that doesn't mean that they draw attention to themselves. they just act like themselves.
Stop trying to impress your friends by being something ur not, and just do what feels right to you.

EMOs can be happy too! Feel the love! EMO doesn't mean depressing, it means emotional... if your going to label, do it right at least. Just because a person's EMO doesn't mean they're all like, grr life... grr cutting... grr

I thought emo meant putting no contraints on your own emotions. In that case, the kid would lack the discipline and willpower to accomplish anything worthwhile. And, he'd blame someone for it. He'd find a way that he wasn't responsible for his own actions.

I hate that stupid label with a passion. I make straight A's. I'm not freakin emo but everyone thinks I am because I don't want to talk to them and I wear black.
