My family thinks that when Dumbledore said, "Severus, please!" that Dumbledore was begging Snape to kill him. That's why Dumbledore and Snape were arguing earlier in the book--Dumbledore was telling Snape to kill him, and Snape didn't want to.

What do you think?

That's also why we think Snape got so mad at Harry when Harry called Snape a coward--Harry had no idea what Snape had to do.

That does explain why Dumbledore was actually begging. It is not like him. And that is a very good idea! I never thought of that! As to whether Snape is good or evil, we do not know. But we do know that Dumbledore is dead! That ruins the whole point of DumbledoreIsNotDead.com. LOL. Well, remember at the beginning of the book where Narcissa Malfoy is concerned about Draco? Well, Snape said he would try to help him. But as Narcissa tells Snape that he must do the (forgot the name of it) oath where he must do what he is told or he will die, Snape does seemed concerned. Draco is evil though. There is no doubt about it.

Dumbledore even knew what Draco was doing all year as we find out at the end of book six. Maybe Dumbledore wanted this to happen all along. Who knows? We will find out in glorious book 7. And by the way, your family actually reads HP? Wow. My family doesn't like it much and I love it. LOL.

What a brilliant question! Seemingly innocent, yet controversial at the same time . Well this could cause an uproar, but I don't think Snape killed Dumbledore! Hang on! Let me explain my reasoning (I could be very wrong). My feeling here was that Dumbledore was begging (since when does he beg?) Snape with his very last breath and that by the time Snape used Avada Kedavra Dumbledore was already gone. To me this explains the strange circumstances of the curse itself, there was only Dumbedore's shell left, his soul had already departed. If Dumbledore trusted Snape (which we are told over and over) wouldn't he have expected Snape to try and save him? Yet he didn't give Snape the opportunity to do anything. Even with far too many events conspiring against Dumbledore that night, and even if Snape and Dumbledore had some sort of plan, I still contend that Dumbledore would not want Snape to have his murder on his hands. This flies in the face of everything he stood for! Ultimately, they were both protecting Harry, and I certainly think Snape was aware that Harry was lying a few feet away(Legilimency/Occlumency). Of course this idea is going to irritate Snape haters, and obviously I have concluded that he is one of the good guys and also those who believe Dumbledore faked his own death. I don't believe that Dumbledore needs to be alive in order for Harry to finish what he has to do.

It seemed that what happened could have been prearranged between the two of them, but how would Dumbledore know that the potion in the stand would do to him what it did, and how would he have gotten that information to Snape if he didn't know before he went to the cave? I think about Snape and potions and wonder if Snape didn't make that potion for Voldemort when he was still loyal to him and Snape was the one who told Dumbledore of its properties and what would happen when he drank it. Dumbledore knew he had to drink it, he couldn't pour it on the ground in order to empty the basin and he knew the potion would kill him simply by what he said to Harry, that he, Dumbledore, wasn't as important as Harry. He had to know that the only way you could get to the bottom of the basin was to drink the potion and that who ever did drink it would eventually die.

I really do not think that is true. Snape had a choice to kill Dumbledore or not. When Narcissa Malfoy asked him to make the Unbreakable Vow he could have easily said no and for Draco to do it.
Snape has always just seemed so cruel. Though Dumbledore trusted him Dumbledore himself said that even he makes mistakes. Only this time it cost him his life.

Whether dumbledore is dead, is a matter of some debate, however it bears little import on this question. I definitely agree with your family that Dumbledore was telling snape he had to do it, in order to save both snape and draco. The order needs a double agent more than they need a livng (visible?) dumbledore, at least in dumbledore's opinion.

if snape had not made the unbreakable vow, bellatrix would have immediately gone to voldy.. and he would no longer be trusted.. in the book, he tries to work his way out of it, and Bx doesnt let him.

If he hadn't helped draco, he would have died.

so in the tower the question was who dies... Snape who has all the ties to the enemy, and is not already weak, OR dumbledore who has passed on alot of info to harry already, has been weak from the begining of the book, and is a very smart man who knows that snape is better of sruviving if he is going to be any help to defeating voldy.

also, ddore knew what malfoy was up to from the beginning, also, he froze harry in place knowing that something bad would happen that he didnt want harry to be in the middle of.. i think he knew it was coming, and snape knew what to do.

snape is good!

Yeah, I think you're exactly right. Snape had to kill Dumbledore to that You-Know-Who would trust Snape.

Well, I guess one could consider it 'begging' to not be killed, but just imagine yourself in that position. Would you not beg? I suppose Snape was hesitant to not kill Dumbledore, as he had finally managed to put Dumbledore in a spot that not even Voldemort could, and he could have been enjoying the moment. Then again, he could have been wondering if there would be some superiority complex between him and Voldemort as he finally accomplished the one thing that Voldemort could not.

I hope this helps... and did not confuse you XD

I agree with you.

As to if Dumbledore is dead or not, he is. JKR had confirmed that.

But she hasn't confirmed that Sirius is dead, which makes me very happy. ^^
