anything is possible. if you have the time and $ then go for it. stick with the powerstroke, it's a better motor.

Well anything can be made possible if you have a machine shop and welding equipment at your disposal .
I hope your talking about a full size bronco at least :) if it is the little problem beside getting everything to match up is going to be changing the springs to hold the extra weight of the motor and even after that you will probably have a lifetime of alignment troubles.
Well now that you have the chassis ready your going to have to change all of your electronics almost , change battery , get a transmission that will also hook up to the powerstroke , cut and reweld driveshaft (tricky it has to stay in perfect balance no heavy or light spots anywhere or you will get a nice vibration
) then the only thing left should be welding new motor and trany mounts and replace the fuel delivery system and flushing the tank out would be a good idea . after that the few little bugs shouldn't be hard to work out at all .
Actually this would be a great project for monster garage , but if you dont have a paid team of tech's to help you out I believe you would be better off scrapping the idea.

It would be completely impractical to do so without thousands of dollars and a complete donor vehicle. You'd probably have to possess fabrication skills, too. You would have to swap the tranny, as well. The Volvo engine would be much less likely to work without extensive fabrication. If the Bronco is a newer one, say, '88 and up, a diesel from a matching era F250 or F350 could work. The diesel drivetrain would likely be too heavy for the Bronco's suspension. However, it might be possible to take the suspension from the donor F250. I have a Bronco that I would like to be diesel, too, but I'm afraid they just died off a little too early, before the realization of the practicality of diesel engines was realized.

sure it's possible! got $20,000 to throw away? i just bought a powerstroke a guy put in a non powerstroke f250. just build a complete wiring harness to the eec and the injector driver module, don't forget the glowplug switches and timers, there is no mechanical linkage from the accelerator pedal,$100+,,if! you can get it to work, his didn't. $1200 dual mass flywheel, or pickup a solid flywheel and cluch for $700., gotta tranny that will bolt to it? $3000 rebuilt from ford plus core. gotta transfer case that'll bolt up? about a grand. modify driveshafts? enuff radiator to cool it? transmission cooler, the 6 speed uses a separate cooler. what about an intercooler? where ya gonna put it in a bronco??
don't forget custom motor mounts and frame rebuilding. don't forget extra springs to hold the weight. want me to keep going?

he ended up putting a cummins from a dodge in it.

You can switch ANY type of engine into any type of vehicle if you are a mechanic and have the patience to do so.
