The working poor are people who work hours on end, earning just enough to get by. Minimum wage is not enough for someone to cover the cost of living, so the working poor usually work multiple jobs.

I understand the phrase.Its when you have a job that pays littl and your monthly costs will not cover your living expenses. You are the working poor.. You have to remember we are a first world country with third world problems. There is something wrong with this picture.

To me, the term "working poor" means someone who has a full-time job but still doesn't make enough money for the basic necessities of life, and as a result, has to accept public assistance.

I always thought that "working poor" meant that a person had a job, but they were living from paycheque to paycheque. They make enough to survive, but just barely. Every penny they earn goes to pay for something.
