I have like an adware thingy on my computer, counter.exe or counter.cab, something like that. I ran Norton Antivirus, but it wouldn't quarantine or delete it. I tried extracting then deleting it, it doesn't work. My computer is a Windows XP Home Edition. I've been tearing my hair out over this (not literally...) so if anyone knows anything about removing viruses, please help me.

The new version of CounterSpy is the best security against spyware, adware etc. you can get. It will also remove all those nasties and give you ongoing active protection. It costs $19.95 but the best thing is that you can get a free 15 day trial of the full version. I recommend it most highly.

my suggestion is to go to a forum where they specialize in these things - geekstogo.com or majorgeeks.com or mybleepingcomputer.com are just three of them - they are free.
