I've given hundreds of vaccs and injections to animals..LOL, but never a rhino vacc. One article says IM and the other says IM in hindquarter muscle. Just trying to find out if it matters with this particular type of vaccine.

Well, with any IM injection, it just has to go into muscle. However, if your horse has a reaction to the vaccine, it just may be more uncomfortable to have it in the neck (swelling or stiffness). When in doubt, follow the common path. Make sure the site is prepped for the injection and don't use chemicals to clean the site or needles as this may interact with the vaccine.

Besides, where would you rather have a shot, in the neck or in the ***!

We were taught to give all injections in the rump, because if by chance an abcess were to develop, it would drain better than if the injection was given in the neck. However, some vets give them in the neck. Thus, it is your choice--it may depend on the disposition of your horse!

If you've never done a booster before, make sure you have a qualified vet with you.

Your vacinations will tell you if it needs to be administered IM or IV. And if it MUST be administered IM in neck, it will dictate that.

Most horses are more comfortable with neck and less likely to kick which is why more shots are IM in neck.

Always consult with your vet.
