You literally just rip the old stuff out. Get a claw hammer and go to work. After you have removed all the old sheet rock and the nails. You cut new pieces to fit in. After you get the sheet rock hung, you will then have to get some "mud" or spackle and fill all along the seems. You then have to sand the mud down so that it is smooth and even with the sheet rock. It is then ready to paint.

It is a lot of hard work, but something that you should be able to do. Don't be afraid to ask your hardware store people for advice. You could probably find a book or two with some more detailed information from a hardware store, Lowe's, ACE, HomeDepot,etc...or even a public library.

Why?? When you can get a 5 gallon pail of repair Gypsm at Lowes for $9.95 and fix all holes and even large damages for next to nothing and it will be good as new. Just buy yourself a trowel and a drywall handle type sander and that Gypsm and you can do that easily.

A fun way is to take a hammer or a bat & baseball and go crazy, but you will have a huge mess to clean up. Otherwise, try to find the seams and peel it from the walls as neatly as possible. Be sure you have a place to get rid of the old. If you put it outside and it gets wet you will have an even bigger mess to clean up! Putting up the new is easy until it's time to finish it.
