No, because I've had this yahoo account for a year now, and I've never shared it with anyone but close friends, and I have email contact enabled on yahoo answers... but I haven't received one spam email since I opened the account.

The way spammers get your email is most frequently from when you sign up for something on the internet that asks for your email address.

For example, you're visiting someone's blog, and you see a big picture of a cockroach and a cross hairs, and a flashing banner that says "SHOOT THE COCKROACH AND GET A FREE RINGTONE!" And of course, you can't resist, and you shoot the damnn cockroach, and then this window pops up that says "Just enter your email address to redeem your free ringtone!" And in your moment of weakness....

.... you enter your email address... and push enter.

And at the exact moment you hit enter, your email address gets added to a dozen databases of email addresses which spammers use to compile lists to send mass emails to and also to sell to other spammers out there. For real.

The way to circumvent this? Get a new email address, because the one you've got now is doomed to a lifetime of spamming. Only give your email to friends. NEVER enter your email address anywhere online. If you sign up for a new account somewhere, use your old spam-ful email address.

Never thought about that, but as soon as you sign up for one magazine or catalog online, it's kind of like losing your computer's IP virginity.
