Probably because of the same reason that you broke up with them, but if u want to contact them I say give it a go. You really have nothing to loose. I talk to my ex boyfriend all the time:)...umm maybe this helps....

well I do call my ex boyfriend almost everyday but by me calling him like that is not going to get us back together see we broke up and I want him back and he saids I have a chance of getting him back but I dont know anymore... I am not so sure anymore... Oh well I guess time shall tell...
