In meiosis 1,crossing over takes place during Pachytene of Prophase whereas it doesn't take place in meiosis 2 and neither does the Dna double again for m2.

Meiosis comprises two successive nuclear divisions with only one round of DNA replication.
Four stages can be described for each nuclear division.

* Interphase: Before meiosis begins, genetic material is duplicated.
* First division of meiosis
o Prophase 1: Duplicated chromatin condenses. Each chromosome consists of two, closely associated sister chromatids. Crossing-over can occur during the latter part of this stage.
o Metaphase 1: Homologous chromosomes align at the equatorial plate.
o Anaphase 1: Homologous pairs separate with sister chromatids remaining together.
o Telophase 1: Two daughter cells are formed with each daughter containing only one chromosome of the homologous pair.

* Second division of meiosis: Gamete formation
o Prophase 2: DNA does not replicate.
o Metaphase 2: Chromosomes align at the equatorial plate.
o Anaphase 2: Centromeres divide and sister chromatids migrate separately to each pole.
o Telophase 2: Cell division is complete. Four haploid daughter cells are obtained

that pretty much summs it up and i'm too tired to type it again

and the guy above is wrong mitosis is what red blood cells do, meiosis 1 and meiosis 2 are two phases of sex cell division.

the individual steps are :prophase, metaphase, anaphase telophase, prophase 2 metaphse 2 anaphase2, telophase 2.

homologous pairs (of chromosomes) separate during meiosis 1.
2 daughter cells from meiosis 1 have the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell.

sister chromatids separate during meiosis two.
4 daughter cells from meiosis 2 have half the amount of chromosomes compared to the original parent cell.

meiosis 1 (blood cells)is exact genetic replacation.....the cell splits into two and the two cells are identical to the original... their are four phases two meiosis 1 pro phase,meta phase, alphas, telophase.
meiosis 2 (reproductive cell division) (sperm&egg) is cell replication of one cell to four cells (each genetically different) from the original.
their are 8 phases prophase, anaphase, metap[hase, telophase,
prophase2, anaphase2,metaphase2, and telophase2
