to find out if a turtle has eggs put two fingers in front of the rear legs on the soft skin and gently move your fingers about very softly you don't want to kill the embryos you will be able to feel the egg lumps but if they are less than 3 years old chances are it will not be gravid as they don't breed until then

It's probably to young for that, but it doesn't have to mate to have eggs so if the turtle is a female it will evenually lay eggs. The eggs just won't be fertile. Make sure your friend does a lot of research on the turtle to make sure they are caring for it properly.

it very well could be. my grandmother's turtle looks bigger just before she lays her eggs. unfortunately without a proper incubator they will not hatch in most climates.
