My friend has come to me for help. She recently had unprotected sex two days before her expected period. She always has very, VERY regular and very heavy periods. The longest she has gone late with her period is three days. Her period was due four or five days ago. We both know that her period could still come at any time, but we want to know when we should/could get a pregnancy test for her. Does she have to wait until her next expected period to take it (assuming she misses this period)?

I showed up positive for pregnancy the day after I missed my period. Seeing as she is atleast 4 days late, she should be able to get a pretty accurate reading from a test. Getting a positive reading depends on the level of the pregnancy hormone in your body, it increases everyday that you are pregnant. The instructions on the test will explain this further. Just follow the instructions to a tee and it should be accurate.

If her period does not come at all or as normal then she can take a home test a little over 2 weeks after she had sex (about 19 days) but that would be the earliest it would show up, I would suggest using an early results test then even though it would be in the middle of the cycle. It is unlikely to become pregnant that near to the period but is of course possible! However, when this occurs the first period generally still comes because it has not been long enough for implantation to occur, etc. so in these cases the woman often doesn't find out until the next month. Sometimes periods are just missed and there is nothing to worry about, however in a few weeks a visit to the dr couldn't hurt b/c he/she could do a blood test to check for pregnancy and if it is negative they could tell her what is keeping her period away. You should ask her to make sure her last period was normal and make sure that it wasn't extra light or anything. Hope this helps!

You can take a pregnancy test as soon as the first day you miss your period....not always accurate that soon, but after five days or so it should be for sure.

Unlikely she got pregnant two days before her period since most woman ovulate in the middle of their cycle...meaning the first day of your period is day one of your cycle. Then you count 28 days from there to your next period. So most women ovulate around day 14. Her egg would have deteriorated by that point and been absorbed by her body more than likey. She's letting her nerves make her late.

Which brings up the whole why is she having unprotected sex?
Is she married? How old is she? Does she understand the process of ovulation and when it occurs? Does she know what STD's do to your body? (Some can not be cured, some kill you, some cause cancer ...HPV... and some scar your body so badly that you can't ever have kids.) Does she want to have an unwanted pregnancy as well?

Sex is a very serious act and not something you just arbitrarily play with. There is very little in life that has so many ramifications in your life. So many consequences. So much to be worried about. Play with fire...not sex

She could take a pregnancy test now. They are designed to be taken after the first missed period. It is always possible that there is another reason for a missed period.

If she feels she is pregnant then take a test now because there are home pregnancy test that 'detect early', but I suggest going to a free clinic or pregnancy testing place.

If she isn't pregnant, it could just be stress. Depending on her age her body could also just be barely coming up with a 'normal cycle'

Some of the earlier over the counter tests will tell you about a week after your missed period whether or not you're pregnant, so she could probably go ahead and buy one and take it.

you in all probability at the instant are not pregnant. If it replaced into secure, then you certainly are in all probability positive, yet i say in all probability because of fact the condom could have broke, etc. in case you had intercourse a pair days till now christmas, you are able to anticipate to maintain getting detrimental consequences from a being pregnant try till this is been 4 complete weeks (although some exams can hit upon it 5 days previously) so i does not anticipate it again out helpful which you're till the top of january. additionally, whilst you're under pressure or somewhat worried you're able to be, it could postpone your era. I under pressure alot a pair months in the past that i may be pregnant and it in the back of schedule my era for 3 weeks from the date it could desire to have surpassed off. So this is okay to nonetheless flow to the healthcare expert, yet i might wager you're positive, or whilst you're pregnant, you would be attentive to by potential of the top of this month. sturdy success!
