System Restore is a very important and critical feature in your computer. I would definitely suggest you DO NOT turn it off.

The only benefit you would get from turning off System restore is recovering some Hard Disk space.

The danger of turning it off is that you can no longer recover from problems caused by corrupted software, or viruses, etc.

I have used System Restore on my own and on many friend's computers, it is a very good feature that I'm thankful exists in the OS.

Don't turn it off.

You just won't have any restore points. I find a much better thing to do is to "Disk Cleanup" and use the tab for options and click "Remove all but Last Restore Point". That way, at least you have one "go back".

You can also use the little bar and slide it down to only restore so much space. It's under the restore properties.
