i have a d-link adaptor with dsl, the problem is that anyone can use my internet as there own and i want to secure it. the signal is quite slow and sometimes poor.

Get out the documentation on your router and read it, then call the tech support if you want. They have some shortcuts that will make it easier to do.

The fact that your signal is sometimes poor could be your computer is too far from the router.

Turn on WEP encyrption. D-link has a wizard that guides you, use it. Link below will you generate a WEP key, good enough to keep out the average user and your neighbor.

Make sure that it's set up with a password for access. You should be able to find this in the help files.
