Before travelling to London are there any ghettos or dangerous parts to go to?

You want to go to ghettos? I'm guessing not.

Avoid Brixton, Haringey, Tottenham, Upper Edmonton.....maybe all of Edmonton actually.
Its obvious when you enter a ghetto as you will see tower blocks and 'estates' (projects) and gangs hanging around smoking weed and so on. But like I say, these places are more outer London like Tottenham and Brixton is a big no no.

Don't hang around places by yourself after dark, stay in a group and be streetwise.
Don't go into pubs and be loud and brag, this is bound to attract trouble....just be smart.

I have lived in some 'dangerous parts' of South London in the past but, it sounds flipant, the gangs do keep their issues within their circles and I never had a problem. It's not like they have shoot outs in the streets.

I think the tube is safe, loads of cameras, safety buzzers on platforms, staff walking about etc I've got the last tube home many a time with no problems.

Just keep you're usual wits about you, dont walk along waving your money about or flicking through your ipod and you'll be fine where ever you go. If you are coming here as a tourist then I doubt you will be in Peckham or Brixton anyway so I dont think gangs will be an issue for you.

Everywhere on the tourist route is generally safe and the worst you'll get is pickpocketed on Oxford Street.

My only warning would be to avoid the night bus (going to any location), it's the only place I've seen serious crime on more than one occassion so get a cab if you miss the last tube.

Yes, there are, but it's hard to say exactly where - the dangerous bits of London are dotted around everywhere.

Avoid the tube late at night, would be my first advice. Easiest place for a mugging. If you have to travel on it at night, try to go in a sizeable group.

And recently there has been a lot of coverage of gang conflicts in London. To me, gangs = avoid. There's a link my sources with the gang hotspots identified by the Metropolitan Police (London's police force).

Look if your tourist then you prob wont venture outside the tourist spots... you are safe there, but obviously just like any other major city in this world you need to be aware of pick-pockets in busy places. yes brixton and tottenham are rough places but their not as bad as they used to be. you know almost every road in london has CCTV there are police wacthing them around the clock, there are also lots of undercover police in all busy areas including brixton tottenham and the west end. London is alot safer then people think. just relax try not to worry and have a great time in the best city inthe world

I believe you are going there as a tourist.I would advise you to behave like a tourist only and do not venture in any sort of raciest remarks. They all are good but there are certain elements among them are very much racist. As you are aware that all traffic in commonwealth countries - Keep Left only.Above all take care of yourself and your belongings.Best of Luck to you dear.

I know this will sound terribly racist but no one else has warned you. So i feel i must. Avoid groups of young black men because they will swarm you and rob you.
