Tune one of the strings to a known good source, like a song that you know has an E chord played for a while. Make the low E string as close as you can. Then tune the rest of the strings to that string:
A - Fret the E at the 5th fret
D - Fret the A at the 5th fret (can also do an octave check by fretting D string at 2 and comparing to low E)
G - and so on...

Go to a website like chordfinder and it will play digital tones for you. Start with E. This is the tone of the highest-pitched string (the thin one at the bottom). The next one up is a B, then a G, then a D, then an A and then an E (an octave lower than the first one)....
Otherwise, take your cute little, 13-year-old blonde self into the nearest Guitar Center and ask any guy to help you tune it. I'm sure he won't say no!

you should learn at least some simple music theory, so that when told that standard tuning is E A D G B E, you know what that means and what fretting does. i recommend you pick up almost any basic "how to play guitar" book. it will contain a section on how to tune.
try also searching the web for simple software for your computer which will help you tune your axe.
Good luck on your journey learning to play. Stick with it. 10 years down the road, you'll still be playing. Can that be said of people buying that "Guitar Hero" game?

Youll need to buy a tuning fork or a tuner because without it, your guitar will most likely not tuned to A 440. They arent that expensive.
Next google for free guitar lessons. There are all sort of online sites for you to get started.

Kinda blonde.......lol
Tighten the 6th string, (fattest), so it does not rattle when strummed.
Press the 6th string at the 5th fret, them bar things on the long bit of the guitar.
Now strum the 6th string and then the 5th string, tighten or slacken the 5th string, until they BOTH sound the same!
Press the 5th string at the 5th fret and strum the 5th string and the 4 th string and tighten or loosen the 4th string until it sounds the same.
Do the same for the 3rd string.
On the 2nd string press the 3rd string at the 4th fret.
and back to the 5th fret for the 1st string!
It now is tuned!

go to fender.com. click on players club and click on the thing that says tune your guitar. then just go from there. turning the little tuning knobs on the head of your guitar forward will make the note higher, and turning them backwards will make the note lower.

you can use a pitch pipe. or get a Metallica Master of Puppets CD, and use the title track and tune to the same pitch they use.
