I saw it a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. It's a movie where it definitely helps to go in with a willing suspension of disbelief - if you take it literally it can be quite depressing.
The story intertwines a fairytale, which can be quite scary at times (rather like the Brothers Grimm stories), with an even more frightening reality. The individual elements aren't that original, but as a whole it is quite different to anything I've seen. The cinematography is stunning.
You've probably heard about the violence in it - it is extremely graphic at times. However I found it didn't stop me enjoying the movie, although there were a couple of times I covered my eyes.
Finally, I liked the fact that it isn't too dialogue-heavy. I find watching subtitled movies with lots of dialogue difficult as I can miss things when I'm reading the subtitles - I certainly didn't have that problem here.
If you've read the reviews - including the mentions of violence - and you still want to see it, I highly recommend it - it is a stunning achievement.

I just got home from seeing it, as a matter of fact.
It was good, but I thought it would be more fantasy and less Spanish Civil War. It was also more violent than I thought it would be.
