did you have it rough, growing up? were you poor, strict parents, or just a bad childhood in general? did it have a positive influence on who you are today?

I grew up in a poor single parent household. I was sexually and physically abused for many years, no one would help me. I tried to kill myself when I was 8 years old and no one tried to stop me. I failed to shoot myself because my arms were too short to pull the trigger on the shotgun. Because of everything going on the only thing that I could think to do was to "not be like them". The things they did to me were horrific and I made a deliberate choice to not be like them, not talk like them, not act like them in any way at all. Today I still have problems because of it but I continue to fight it tooth and nail every day. I will not allow them and what they did to me to keep me from living a good life. It is by no means easy but your life is what you make it.

i had all of the above, plus physically abused. it made me a better person because i strive for better. that and as a result of being abused i will never be like my parents in that aspect. as for being poor, i will always support my children, for me, they WILL come first. you bring them into the world - you take care of them.
i am a stronger person because of what happened to me. A lot of epeople that have things handed to them are idiots when they get older.
