It can always turn better — or worse. Philosophically, given the circumstances and the limited degree of control we sometimes have over what the external environment is, or can become, it's wise to remember what Viktor Frankl, author of MAN'S SEARCH FOR MEANING wrote — that the one thing we have some degree of control over is the attitude we take to what happens. An acquaintance of mine, a Rabbi, psychologist and student of Frankl, and author of many books, illustrated this with his most recent book, on the death of his parents, which is noted as a source.

Yes.. It can get better and it can also get worse.
The wisdom is in recognising each of these and realising that neither last, just interchange.
