Sexual and emotional incest is about power and control and opportunity, not about closeness or love. Check out a site about child abuse to get a better perspective. It's very insulting to assume that only poor people commit incest-it happens in every class and race.

According to the FBI, the majority of children who are raped in the US are raped by a relative, or family friend, not by a stranger, which is what children are told to watch out for.

It's a lot more comfortable to look out for the boogie-man than to acknowledge that your own family members and acquaintances are the biggest risk to your children's safety.

It isn't quite that simple, and it's being looked at recently because of the German siblings trying to overturn the incest laws. In some parts of the world there's pressure to marry within the tribe, and I use the term loosely because it can apply to a few very closed Amish sects. Those are the situations where a limited gene pool becomes a problem, even if the mating isn't technically incestuous. One-off random pairings of cousins or even siblings doesn't seem to pose as much of a problem.

You're looking at motives though, and they vary widely. It's a mistake to think that incest is merely child abuse, because it often doesn't involve children. Incest may be a consequence of poverty or ignorance, but that doesn't mean incest is an indicator of poverty or ignorance. You should research something known as 'genetic sexual attraction' which occurs between closely related persons raised apart. I think it's amazing how people will accept homosexual pairing as normal while ostracizing heterosexual GSA between two persons who were raised apart.

This was a pretty good article:

Although inappropriate emotions or emotional incest between family members can cause people to be dysfunctional, and it might make others around them feel uncomfortable- I do not believe it CAUSES sexual incest.. A father, who for instance; sexually abuses his little daughter, doesn't see her as a lover. Lovers have a relationship with one another, talking, laughing, even argueing but usually sharing common interests.
This man knows she is a child and his daughter, and perhaps he treats her as the child she is in other ways. However he is allowing himself to be ruled by a lack of human emotion and decency because he thinks he can get away with it in his mind as long as he is detached as the father.

There is definitely a psychological pathology know as emotional incest. It may or may not lead to physical acting out by a perpetrator. None-the-less, incest does not have to be a physical act for it to be considered incest. See a book by John Bradshaw entitled, "Healing the Shame that Binds You" for a more thorough discussion of this topic.

Incest is sexual intercourse between kinfolk, families could desire to have some emotion for the different, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it is not poverty that motives incest, that's loss of morality or ethical education.

Poverty creates no social problems or everyone with little money would have the same problems.

You are looking too simplistically, trying to distill everything down. Such conclusions will be misleading.
