For as long as there has been more than one human on this planet there has been gossip... its a very basic part of life and is the main component of everyday conversation.

If one had to pinpoint the origins of gossip it would have to be wherever humanity first began. And wherever speech first became a practical part of life. There are theories that women began communicating before men. The most common reason for this being that women needed a group to survive whereas men could take care of themselves, by themselves.

And yes men do gossip its just not heard about as much. They, much like women, report the actions and words of others just like the rest of us.

As for the morality of gossiping, its hard NOT to gossip since there ARE other people in the world. "Gossip" covers a large area of conversation and, if one were to get technical about it, this answer could be considered gossip since it is based on what other humans are up to.

Simply put, gossiping has been around for ages; everybody does it, intentionally or not; there is no "cure" because this isn't a "disease"; my trusty little electronic Merriam-Webster's dictionary doesn't know the etymology of the word; if people would stop sticking their snotty noses in other peoples' business gossiping wouldnt exist. As soon as you can get people to stop talking you can get them to stop gossiping.

*deep breath*

The cure for gossip is cold, hard, astonishing truth and proof, although nothing can completely cure gossip. Yes, men do gossip. I believe gossip started when language and communications were invented with the early cavemen. I'm pretty sure it began in the Middle East (Asia, then :P) because people were first evolved there and first came up with language there. Why do is not a complete question. There are many people on the planet that have never gossiped like babies that die a day or so after they are born, therefore not having the opportunity to speak and spread gossip. The word evolved/originated from the Middle English word godsibb, meaning God + sibb meaning relative, like relative to the truth. The next question is a bit unclear. Yes, it is possible to be born and never gossip, see above. There are degrees of intensity for gossip, I'm sure. I will not answer any questions with severe improper English. No. The end result will be a normal human being. Yes. Sure. No. The cutting out of tongues. Probably, but I'm not completely sure. By answering this question, I'm not gossiping, but I have gossiped in the past. Possibly. There probably is one, but I cannot recall any now. See above. And, yes, they probably have.

I hope that answers your questions! I had fun. :P

Don't know where it came from but I'd love a cure. I think it is very hurtful. I think it becomes an obsession in those who cannot be honest. There is some weakness in the gossiper than feeds off another.

To go about and carry the news..."
