WEll,I got married and graduated from college and Nixon resigned as President, that was HUGE !!!!!!!!!!!!! The whole watergate scandal. There was the first gas shortage and we had to go several hours ahead of time and wait in line for like 3 hours to get gas. It was about .50 a gallon. The Smothers Brothers had a TV show and they would badmouth the government and they were almost taken off the air. Peter Paul and Mary and many folk singers were popular, John Denver. The Carpenters too. Kids still got spankings and they were still pretty well behaved in classrooms. starting teacher salary in OR was $11,000. A new house cost about $50,000 for a 1600 sq.ft 3 bdrm 2 bath . New cars were about $5000 I think. Minimum wage was about $3. no one knew sunbathing caused cancer. don't know about smoking ?? thought stomach ulcers were caused by stress and much later found out they are caused by bacteria. Movies and TV shows would be considered "white as snow" compared to what you see on tv commercials today. Mini skirts were still in. Bell bottom pants. This was just past the hippies in the 60's so there was still a lot of smoking marijuana which was much safer then, not that I approve, but the stuff you bought wasn't dangerous. There were no computers unless they were like at a college and took up a building the size of a 2 story one block building and that was one main frame computer and most of us didn't even know what a computer was. Phones were still connected to the wall with a cord. Color TV hadn't been out that long. VW bugs were the car of choice as one's first car, usually used. The rate of premarital sex was much much lower, I just read it is now at 95 %. I know it wasn't anywhere's near that high. If you got pregnant and weren't married, you were ashamed and no baby showers etc. People were just starting to live together without being married but it was hush hush, came from the hippies. I don't think abortions were legal yet. email me if you need more and I'll try to stretch my old brain a bit further :)

Nixon resigned, Karen Morris (later Karen Morris Gowdy) was America's Junior Miss and I graduated from high school. So did Karen. Same high school.

Oh, there was also a wave of domestic terrorism. High school kids started calling in bomb threats to disrupt their school days and at our school they even tossed a Molotov cocktail out on the gym floor. It wasn't made properly and didn't go off, but that had NEVER happened in Wyoming.

Oh, and 1974 was the year of the Streaker.
