de Groot. Was annoyed that State Premier was going to do it, rather than the Governor (the Monarch's representative), so rode in on horseback and cut the ribbon with his sword in the name of the head of the British Empire.

When the bridge was officially opened on 19th of March 1932.Captain Francis De Groot cut the ceremonial ribbon with his sword when he dashed forward on horseback.
