Very safe. Egyptians are the nicest people in the world and they will welcome you into their country and their homes. I spend several months in Egypt each year and have only one time had to stay in a hotel for a few days. Every other time I was invited to stay in a flat with a family. You will not go hungry in an Egyptian's house either. As far as national secutiry, you will notice a strong police presence as well as metal detectors and bomb sniffing dogs at certain places that might seem odd to Americans (like the shopping mall). This may frighten some, but it only goes to show how seriously Egypt takes security issues. It seemed strange to me at first, but I quickly came to appreciate the measurement of safety. As far as street crime - you will very rarely encounter this in Egypt. The only thing that might happen that you will find slightly annoying is children selling packets of tissues will follow you for miles or until you give them 25 piastres. I have heard stories of women being hissed at and verbally harassed, but I have never experienced such a problem. The worst thing that happened to me was a taxi driver pulled over and made me get out of the cab because I would not agree to pay him 13 pounds for a ride that would normally cost 6 pounds. The only real danger for Americans and Europeans is that too many in Egypt will assume you are wealthy. But on a scale from 1 to 10 I give it a 10.

well Egypt in general is not a dangerous country ...but there are some rules that u have to follow very where like do not go out alone late at night if u are a female ...these kinds of rules ...if ur with a group of people its ok ... there are many places that are always busy with people day and night espacially in cairo and Alexandrai in summer ...hurgada, sharm el shikh , louxor and aswan are always safe cause these places are always full of tourists and the security there is very high... if u are comming to have fun then i can assure u that u wll have fun ...Egypt is really great full of nice places historical and non historical .. i wouldnt recommend that u try to take a local bus i rather prefer u use the taxi yes its more expensive but eventually no one would keep staring at u in it :D...heyyy yes we are friendly people

am agreed with all previous answers & if once was there some saftiy problems it happend in in the most safe place in the world London. and am egyption, i have a lot of American & british working in my company they are very safe no problems at all.

Egypt is very safe compared to Europe, USA and many regions. Just you have to understand the mentality and to know some information about Egypt before you visit.

Very safe, as long as they don't put themselves in hazardous situations. Just like it is in any other country, foreigners should not break dress codes through wearing very revealing clothes and it is better if they do not walk through poor areas among people who are not used to seeing non-Egyptians around, and even then the unsafety limit is not so serious.
In fact Egyptians are very hospitable, kind hearted and always more than ready to offer help. Egypt as a government is very welcoming to tourists because they present one of the main income sources of the country.
