I enjoy taking classes for enjoyment and for knowledge, not for a degree or for a job. My parents are always making me feel stupid and unfocused because they feel I could be spending time getting a degree in something that would get me a good job. I'm not someone who cares about things like cars, jewlery, expensive homes, etc, so I'm not looking for a "good job." As long as I have a job, and can pay rent, get food, etc I'm fine. I have a job right now and pay for my own classes so I don't see what the big deal is and why they keep making feel stupid. Maybe you can help me figure out why they keep making me feel like I'm wasting my life?

Some parents don't understand that life is not just about making a lot of money. Of course, you need money, but you don't need to be rich!

Also, what you are learning will always be useful. Culture is important as well, be it only for your personal enrichment. Being curious is great! Don't change! What's more, you're paying for your own studies, so I don't see why they should have anything to say about it!

Because they love you and want to help you. They want you to take classes so you can get a degree, a good paying job and enough money to support yourself. You can easily take classes that will please you and your parents. Just get a degree in what you like doing for fun, and teach it. You said you're taking classes for enjoyment and knowledge... well get a degree for teaching one of those classes or a degree that involves something to do with one of those classes.

Hey everytime you take a class you are getting smarter and smarter, regardless of what they think.
2 degrees and 1 certificate later I am still taking classes for fun and interest. So I threw in a couple required classes and got a degree.
And my family said I would never even graduate HS. LOL Did that on time too.
If you are cocky like me, "I would say if you want a degree so bad go take your own classes."

You do not pursue success. . .you attract success, by the kind of person that you become.
If these classes are helping you to become a person who attracts success, then that should be good enough for anyone.

(Provided, of course, you are paying your own way!)

As a parent of a college student.......if you want to pay your own way and you don't ask me for a dime for your enrichment...go for it.
If they give you too much trouble ..I'll trade kids with them..and they can pay for mine and her higher education and other expenses.... :)
