Cuba, like the Philippines and Hawai'ian islands, was once a United States territory. Congress resolved that holding such territories was a violation of our Constitution and decreed such territories be offered statehood or set free to persue their own manifest destiny.

Now, having said that, it is highly unlikely that Cuba will become the a part of the Union. That time passed a hundred years ago. Cuba was its greatest threat to the US over forty years ago, and hardly constitutes a danger today, so imperialistically siezing the country is also out. Very likely, when Castro dies, trade and travel between the US and Cuba will be negotiated, tried and then opened to all and sundry but that will take time so don't invest in any Cuban timeshares this year.

Its a little more complicated than that. Probably not though. At least not for a long, long time, if ever. Look at puerto rico. All the benefits of US citizenship and they pay no taxes. Why ruin that?

It will however, hopefully be open to tourism. This embargo thing is a little old. I don't think Cuba is a threat to anyone. China is a gigantic threat and we can't stop pumping money, trade and touriam there!

I for one hope not.
That just might make it another country for the Americans to support instead of taking care of their own.
Doesn't Castro have someone to inherit his power when he dies who would certainly take over where he left off before his death?
If he does then it would still be the same Cuba as it is today.

Not unless we are willing to be ruled by a totalitarian government. You can bet that when Castro dies there will be numerous men fighting to take over his ruthless dictatorship. Power hungry men breed power hungry successors.

No way. Hugo Chavez has his eye's on it. He's already developing a dictatorship in the guise of a Socialistic government. Venezuela North.

This cannot be ruled out. All for the purpose of survival. Castro has the will of Nationalistic instint. Not all his people. This eventuality is likely to happen in future.

If ex-patriate Cubans have anything to do with it, the answer is yes. I know a couple of Cubans and they describe Cuba as a great place to visit, especially if one is interested in low-priced vintage cars.

It's funny that after all those assassination attempts failed the plan has been reduced to "He's going to die soon.".
Castro 1
US 0
