Before hiring do the prospective employers contact your current employer about us? How is the salary fixed (just by negotiating or any particular thumb rule)? I am a graduate from India and have ample experience in insurance field in UAE. Do I need to study further in Melbourne before I bag my first job?

G'day,

Once you have been interviewed, they will likely to make some calls based on the referees provided in your CV/Resume to cross-check your answers and to find out things that they cannot ask you directly during the interview. You will need to put 3 referee names at the end of your CV/Resume, with their contacts for the potential employers to contact.

In regards to salary, most advertisements will mention abt the range of salary will be given, bonuses and the superannuation rate (between 7%-15%). You may check these job websites to find out abt your salary range as well:
www.seek.com.au
www.mycareer.com.au
www.careerone.com.au

You may also want to find out at what level your qualification is equivalent to in Australian education degree system. The best way is to contact NOOSR (http://aei.dest.gov.au/AEI/QualificationsRecognition/Default.htm). By doing so, it may give more 'umph' towards your credibility as well.

Hope this helps. All the best for your job hunting.

Your prospective employer will look at your current resume and work history. In regards to insurance, you will more than likely have to complete the tier 1 qualification through the ANZIFF this included Insurance Law and regulations, and also customer service..

Best advice is to contact a recruiting agency that specialises in the Insurance field.

Possibly previous employers will be contacted, or you will have to provide names of referrees who will vouch for you. Make sure you pick people (usually 3) who will definately say glowing things about you.

In regards to salary. make sure you have a figure in your head, and work around that. Im not sure what area you currently specialise in so I cant give you an indication of the salary range.

Most employers will want to contact your current employer, but if that isn't an option, make sure that you have at least 3 references, esp from employers in your past (preferable the last three jobs that yoy have had). I for one, when employing people in the past can't stand personal references, unless they haven't had a job before
