I usually apologize and confess that I'm having a total brain fart, and ask their name. Most often, they're very cool about it, and volunteer every speck of information about themselves, to help me remember. No one likes to be "unmemorable"!

That actually happened to me when I was younger. I was in plays all the time, and people would come to me and greet me and I had no clue who they were...

i had that happen at work a few times(i'm a cashier)..and i was just all happy and let them do most of talking and after our short encounter i had to think long and hard who that person was....
