I have these black bugs in my basement...they look like lightning bugs but they have red backs....They have now made it upstairs and I don't know how to get rid of them..any advice? or know the name at least?

In the box on the left, click on the outline of the bug that looks most like the ones you see. It will take you to pages of bugs in that family of insects. There are lots of good color pictures and you should easily be able to identify the the culprits.

High heels and a good aim. All kidding aside,call a pest control company. It would help to know what state you live in. In California black and red with an hour glass is a black widow.
Consider them all poisonous, until you know for sure.

I can't tell you for sure without a picture, but it sounds like Leatherwings. They look like trouble, but they are "good" bugs. They eat aphids and other pesty bugs.

Scoop them up, carry them outside and put them on a plant. Roses if you have them.

They won't bite or sting you.

aye those might be blister bugs they look like lightning bugs but yet they do not light
