Maybe you should try some older movies. "Fail-safe" was a very good one. Consider the old version of "the Manchurian Candidate". Try "Calamity Jane", "the Quiet Man", "the Magnificent Seven".
Try some old World War Two movies. Some of them are enough to scare you. They are real enough that you really admire the work that went into making a soldier out of a civilian. Those were some very tough men.
