okay, lemme try help-
First you need to decide if its a "warm" tone or a "cool" tone of brown- this means is is orangy/red type of brown or pinky/blue type of brown? If you are unsure, try asking a friend/shop assistant one of the workers from the dulex paint team- I think they live in B&Q stores, or even better a makeup assistant at one of the highstreet stores
- I know it sounds wierd but as a store customer retail assistant, we are here to help- we DO get board even though we are always kept buisy(the tasks are mind numbingly DULL) and we do -most of us! know our stuff!
Next once you have sorted out the tone (either warm or cool), you need to find a shirt which goes well.
For a formal wear colour- I mean could you/should you wear a tie? black trousers? then its formal, -if iots formal, stick to white- BUT wear creamy beigy white with a warm tone brown OR a ivory grey hinted white (or brilliant white) with a cool tone brown.
Is it a laid back type of thing? then coloured shirts will be fine-
for a warm coloured brown, stick to warm coloured shirts- warm colours are orangy reds, salmon pinks creamy through to beige, mellow yellows...
For a cool coloured brown try crisp blues, lilacs, purples, mint greens, and pastle pinks, pale greys ...
Try to keep the shirt lighter or paler than the jumper, and always try to get a second opinion from someone you admire or regard their fashion sense- your 4 yearold best friends son may not be the best choice.
And above all remember, its the confidence that pulls of any out fit- faux-pas or not, if you look like you are having a good time then people will believe you are and your outfit wont be pickedup on. Promise.

Cream, but god! why do you have to wear a chocolate sweater. How perverse is that? Check out pure3design for style ideas.

Depends what you're wearing it with, but the victoriana style meshy blouses with high necks look pretty good with them for a more formal look, or a polo neck, but these very much depend on your build. If you've got big boobs, then don't cover the area between top and neck much or it just makes the whole area look a lot bigger and make you look fatter.
