Don't eat anything1 to 2 hours before a match. Before a match a light meal is better, pastas if you can get to them, but mostly food that is easily digestible. If you eat things like carrots, apples, or lettuce, you body will be using more energy to digest those, and in turn, you could feel really bad stomach cramps during the meal. Light delimeats are okay, but no huge portions of meat, you will feel heavy, and won't want to run. Peanut butter is also very good. And like everyone says, Bananas. Bananas are easily digestable, they are like pure energy in a peel. Bananas instantly turn into carbohydrates in your body, and carbs are what gives you good energy. Stay away from granola bars, and go easy on energy drinks and Gatorade and Powerade, the sugar in them, and caffeine in Energy Drinks will really drain you in the end.

I play tennis also - I suggest Gatorade to drink and Clif bars for eating. A combination of these two items will keep you going during the matches.

As far as eating goes, PASTA is what you need. And while I am saying that, make sure you don't totally load up on it.... Eat light, stop eating before you get full... It's almost worst playing with a full stomach than it is an empty one.
Drink water--most important the night and morning before your match. Also drink it during and after to load up before your next match...
Many players also take sips of gatorade and powerade during matches..--Some like it, some don't...
Lots of people on hot summer days bring a small ice chest full of ice with a towel inside... then during the breaks they can ice off their bodies and get "recharged" before the next couple of games!

before and during a tennis match i wuld say bananas are the best for eating because they help keep u from getting cramps...and as good as gatorade is pedialyte or any other elctrolyte drink is probably the best idea for a drink because it replenishes everything u burn off while u playing

before the match, drink yogurt (not milk!) with low sugar and low fat. During the match, eat a banana to give you energy.
