to get a modeling contract anywhere you will have to defenetly visit an agency where they will tell you weather or not you are "model material" after you get through, they will help you find somewhere to get started

Search the web for castings around your area. Typically there are websites in which you make your profile and upload your pcture in which you get discovered. In order to be a model you need to know the business up and down you cant just go in a agency and tell them you want to model. You need a portfolio with your best images including a body shot and a face shot. You need to look for modeling agencies around your area to. Dont worry about your weight ok!

First of all, you do not need to be skinny or any of that ridiculous crap they tell you about in TV. Stereotypically, yes, all the known models are stick thin.

First things first. You need to learn the different kinds of modeling available and which ones you fit in best. There is the infamous fashion or runway modeling. This type of modeling is the one that is widely known for the "stick thin" models. Fashion models are 5'8" to 6'1" in height, size 2 and below, usually ages 15 to 22. This is the highest paying type of modeling. They are looking for distinguished look or sharp features. I personally wouldn't recommend this because it's unnecessary for young people like you to try and be stick thin when you don't even have to. Trust me. It's not that fabulous. You'll be miserable and you'll be irritating to the people around you.

Then there is the fitness models. This kind of modeling requires a healthy, athletic physique. Swim suit models are very similar to fitness models but are more focused on feminine curves. Personally, I enjoy swim suit modeling the best. I love the beach and my poses come naturally to me.

Artists, photographers, sculptors, and other artists hire models to pose for their art. This is known as fine art modeling. You would have to be able to hold a pose for a long period of time for this kind of modeling.

If you are outgoing and fun, promotional modeling might be for you. This type of modeling requires for the models to be approachable, friendly, fun, and outgoing. Their looks can vary and depends on the promotion. They are seen at clubs, TV shows, malls, by the beach, schools, and everywhere else.

The last but not the least, print and commercial. These are the people you see in TV commercials, catalogues, stores, and magazines. The look can also vary. This type of modeling is all over the place. They're on bill boards, calendars, they represent anything from cellphones to babies, the age is from 1 to 70 years old, and it is where almost anyone can be qualified.

The best tip I can give you is let your emotion show through the camera. All you need is a pretty face and good attitude that shines through. Eyes always show great emotions.

Just right off the bat, you should know that there are many competitions out there and it is tough. Modeling is part of the entertainment business. It's risky, competetive, and it can shatter your dreams. It's harsh and the best you could do is believe in yourself and do not let criticisms get to you. Take the criticisms gracefully and see what you can and willing to do. Whatever you do, do not rule college out. Always put your education first. Modeling is every girl's dream. However, it's not for everyone.

I suggest trying it out, you're young and it's a fun experience. But do not rule out education. Since you're underage, you will need to tell your parents what you want to do and get your parents permission. Always ask for the photographer/company to sign a contract with you, whether it is an agreement that he/they will not show a picture of you if you do not agree or it's an agreement of compensation. Always have someone know when and where you're having a photo shoot and if possible, have an escort go with you to your photo shoots.

To start modeling, you will need to have a portfolio. Do not fall for scams that ask for money. You do not need to pay anyone to build your portfolio. Go on http://www.onemodelplace.com and put up some pictures of you, preferrably close ups and of whole body shots. Many of the photographers who are also building their portfolios are on there. Most of them are willing to work for free with models who are also starting. Always ask for references. See how these people are when they worked with other models. Do not risk your safety for a photo shoot. Use common sense.

Your compensation will most likely start as TFP or TFCD. TFP stands for Time For Print and TFCD stands for Time For CD. This means you will be paid with prints or CDs (digital images) from your photo shoot in exchange for your time.

With my experience, I started off with $50 an hour and after some time I got offered $300 an hour.

One last thing, always remember to have fun when modeling. If it's not fun, then you're doing something wrong.

PS: You do not need an agent or an agency. Their jobs are mainly to look for a job for you. You pay them at least 10% of your pay from the modeling they booked you in. Only get an an agent or an agency if these are well known agencies. IE Jet Set Models. Watch out for scams.
