My car, a 1995 300zx.The noise is a squeek, squeek, squeek, sound as i back up & only when i back up.The noise is comming from the under and twards the back.I had the breaks checked but just as i suspected it wasnt that.Driving forward it runs like a bute with no noise or vibration. It started about two weeks ago. When driving in reverse the noise is present weather the car is hot or cold. The noise level is allways the same. The squeek squeek sound picks up speed as the car piks up speed. If anyone knows what this might be,is it fixable without replacing something? Oh,the noise that i am hearing is'nt getting louder, its been the same from the start. What could this be? and what should i do? All your thouts and or ideas will be greatly apreciated. THANKS TM

Did you check the drive shaft, pinion seal & u joints?

Even though the breaks seem ok, you will have brake dust that is the major cause in brake noise. a good thing to try before anything is to get a bottle of brake cleaner from any local parts store and just spray the heck out of the rotor and pads and the whole assembly for that matter. If the rotors have not been replaced or resurfaced that could be it too. I had the same problem on my car and looked at the pads in the rear and the outside pads were good but the inside were super worn. best bet is just to change them if you can yourself. your struts could be shot too?

Drive shaft could be the cause. Mainly the u-joints. If its a Manual Transmission, check the fluid. Just because its still red does NOT mean its still good. Check the last time it was changed. Possible the reverse idler gear within your manual, if it is a manual. And i'm not sure if a 300ZX is rear wheel drive (Not a nissan guy) but it could be your diff.

My best guess is a rear wheel bearing. Had a similar noise on my car. I replaced both rear wheel bearing and the noise went away.

Check it out man, These are my 2 best guesses. #1 If you have a carrier bearing grease it. it is used to going one direction and is worn accordingly. But this is highly unlikely. I have never seen a carrier bearing on a 300z. #2 this is my only really good guess. GREMLINS. Yes, gremlins have invaded your car. don't let them eat after midnight and whatever you do, don't get them wet.

you might want to remove the rusty parts of the rear wheels and replace or get the thing that makes the rust come off

that really does sound like a break problem, Despite what the eight dollar an hour brake technician told you, have it checked somewhere else.

Sounds like brakes-- but possibly a wheelbearing.
