You don't mention the year of your car..assuming it's fairly new it should take 5w30 oil. I've never seen any benefit or problem with using synthetic oil. More important is the viscosity. Stick with the right grade oil. For your info though, the oil the dealerships use is non-synthetic, which is what came in your car when new.

Synthetic oil will protect the engine better, especially under severe driving conditions such as extreme cold or extreme hot weather. You may see a fuel mileage increase also.
How ofter do you change you oil now? And what brand and weight oil do you use? If you do not do a lot of stop and go driving and most of your trips are longer then 20 minutes you are not using the car under what the manufacturer would call severe service. If you do fit this category your oil change intervals per Ford should be along the range of 3,000 miles instead of 6,000 miles. The more "severe" driving you do the more often the oil should be changed and the greater the difference would be if you used a synthetic or good quality oil versus a non-synthetic or poor quality of oil. The better the oil the more it protects the engine and the less internal wear it will have. This "less wear" should dramatically help to make the engine last longer, all things being equal.
Also do not forget to check your oil level often. (at least when you fill up with gas). A low oil level will negate what you are trying to accomplish as it very well may result in more engine wear or engine damage!

How many miles do you have on it? You get your best results in changing to synthethic oil if you put it in just after the initial engine break-in period--usually the first oil change you do in the vehicle. If you have been using regular petroleum oil and your car has over 15k miles on it, synthetic oil really isn't worth the added expense. Don't get me wrong, synthetic oil is great stuff and it will help you go more miles between oil changes(5000 miles versus 3000 on regular oil), but it is also twice the price of regular oil, and, as I said before, if the synthetic wasn't put it in after the first oil change, you really aren't doing yourself any good with for the extra money, since the engine is used to the regular oil. Synthetic won't make the car run any better than regular oil, but due to it's non-petroleum properties, it doesn't thicken up as much in colder weather(below 30degrees), so it gets to the engine parts faster on a very cold start--this is good if you live in a cold climate. As to making the engine last longer, as long as you change the oil and filter every 3000 to 3500 miles, change your coolant every 30000 miles and do your general routine maintenance, there is no reason you shouldn't get 200K plus miles out of your mustang before you have any problems. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

No you do not might want to apply synthetic oil. you should use time-honored or the blends of both. although even as some synthetics bypass 5 to 15 thousand or extra, why no longer? I easily have a ninety GT with 247,00 miles and performance run Castrol Syntec mix maximum the time i have had it and merely this year lengthy gone finished synthetic. What made me replace? each and each of the significant producer advise it and could void the guaranty if no longer used contained in the better end performance automobiles.

Given a car with less than 60-70k miles....I'd vouch for Royal Purple.....use good filters too...Stick with the motorcraft or wix.
Oil change intervals should be approx 5kmiles...some go longer...but I don't, every one of my cars has lasted over 250kmiles with no major work done to them. (2 cars and a truck)
