just as people are individuals, so, too, each person has his/her own sets of morals.

I think parents are the first and most important influence in a human being's life whether for good or evil because they are the example we follow ,which explains why different people have different morals, though there are exceptions to every rule.I'm a middle aged woman and I realize that what my parents taught me as to right and wrong has stayed with me the longest, religious teachings are also an influence.Society also shapes our morals by constant exposure to a behavior or idea which in time we begin to accept as the norm. And then there is basic human nature like you mention,we may be taught the difference between right and wrong but it is up to us individually to make the choice.

Personally, our parents and grand-parents and family are the ones who shape our morals they teach us as we grow up, how to live by these morals. As a country or collective society, our morals are shaped by our history and constitution and by our leaders of course. How other people in the world treat us has an effect on our dealings with them, they can do something which we consider immoral, yet we may still `go along` with them, and in turn this may alter our morals. All and everything that happens to us makes its` mark upon us and re-evaluates our morals.

In Britain, our morals are shaped by the X Factor and Eastenders,OK magazine, and zombies like jonathan ross, jade goody, shilpa, knobhead Preston and brain dead wife. We were once a nation of scholars, but now we just worship idiotic celebrities...Its very sad the way this country is going

My family have shaped my morals and society to a certain extent. We all have different morals due to our beliefs and the way that we have been raised and the values of out families

Family has been the most influential in shaping my morals. Children really introject their parent's values at a young age. I was raised in a family that emphasized fairness. After family, religion has been especially significant in shaping my morals. And thirdly, social norms and expectations.
Different people have different morals because they were raised by different people, have different religious backgrounds, and have had different life experiences.

Read " Moral Minds ", by Mark Hauser, for an scientific look at our evolved moral history. " Why do different people have diferent morals " These traits are continuous, so they vary. Your question is analogous to asking, " why do different people have different heights "?

Humans are weak in many ways, and so we must cooperate with other people for survival. It is the rules that helped us cooperate that shaped our morals.
