I played piano and flute for a few years each, but even though I've quit both, I still know a bit about music, especially since I've kept up my singing lessons. I think it would be good for me to learn to play a musical instrument again, but I don't know which one. Preferably it would be something small and portable, and quite unique.

You can't go wrong with a guitar, especially if you're taking singing lessons too. If you're thinking unique, I would suggest a stringed orchestral instrument, like the violin or viola. However, if you choose violin or cello, you will find that it is difficult to get into orchestras, since many people in those communities play those specific instruments.

The violin would be a good pick. Many people would say other things such as drums, but the violin is a good choice. Why? Most people who play drums are usually in a band, and those bands usually stay in the garage stage their whole lives. But the violin is always needed: At weddings, and parties, at ceremonies. It could be a good way to make money. : )

I reccomend the Violin. It's really not that hard to learn, and once you start playing it you become really passionate about it. It it also pretty easy to learn to play other instruments after playing the violin. Plus, its really, really fun!=]

drums are funky. i love playing the drums, its a passion, not just a hobby. yeah, they are loud, who cares? that guy that said drummers get stuck in the garage, i have the most fun playing in the garage, but i do get paid for playing all over my area. so, he doesnt know what he is talking about. play the drums. be a champion.
