YES!! it can, i work for a Honda dealership so i have experience in the field as a technician, the ball joint is just that a joint shaped like a ball that helps your car flex when driving, and it also keeps the spindle stay attached to the A-arm, this joint is covered by a rubber seal that contains grease that helps it move around. when these rubber seals rip they leak out the grease, when these joints dont have grease they begin to break down because of the heat buildup do to the friction and stress these joints are exposed to, sometimes these joints are defective and they make noise, these are two cases in which the ball joints would need to be replaced, one thing to remember is that once a joint has been exposed to the elements it must be replaced, so if u have a boot that is bracking or beginning to tear it is best to pay to replace that boot instead of the whole joint, in any case a ball joint a ball joint that is not maintained and properly greased will stiffen and snap, and you can lose control.

not sure about the ditch part but yes. the upper ball joints can cause you to loose control of your vehicle because it will allow the wheel to wabble in and out on the upper control arm causing a horrible vibration. now the lower ball joint is vthe load handler if it pops out you will end up on the ground with little to no control of where you might skid.

Yes, and might even get to roll over a couple times if you're lucky. The ball joints are hold the upper and lower control arms apart. When they fail, the front tires can and will bow inward.

Of course!! You should really get that fixed my friend. I was on the highway and i felt something pop and i was praying that i made it home in one piece and as i pulled into my driveway, my blazer just fell on the ground! My blazer was up on all 3s.. They couldnt take my tire out because the car hit so hard on the floor and it bent the tire.. So i would reallu suggest you do something. Dont go and get yourself hurt. But i knew that something like that would happen since i was ADVISED that the rims i was getting were to heavy for my truck..

Yes of course it can if it is worn badly enough. The ball joint is a integral part of your suspension/steering systems.

it can cause you to lose control of your vehicle...if you knew it was bad you should drive slower to prevent this from happening and you should change it as soon as possible...I have replaced a lot of them and they r not that hard to replace. have seen people drive on them till they break with no problems until the joint broke and then they had to replace a lot more pieces.

It depends on how bad the ball joint is. Its not that likely, but theoretically, if its really that gone, yes.

i own a shop ,and not only will it do that but if it breaks on it or comes loose,it will fold the wheel over,or under the vehicle ,and the repair bill will be tremendously high on it,as long as its in tact,it can be repaired fairly cheap, but let it come off,and your in for a ride plus a big repair bill, good luck, hope this helps.
