well glad to see everyone enjoy the movie last samurai. Seems everybody has bitten into the romanticised notion of a samurai. it is simmilar to how eurpean Knights used to be thought as being all chivalrous... anyway not time to rant
The gentleman before me did say, and I agree that gladiators did not have hte life expectancy to gain many skills.. however since you DID specify that its a fight between a skilled gladiator and a samurai that makes things more complicated.
I cannot give you an answer either way. but i will tel lyou the following
1) The samurai probably did have superior fighting skill
2) The samurai had superior weapons than the gladiator
3) gladiators as a rule wore little or no armour which would settle the debate right there.
...
on the other hand the gladiator would probably be physicaly stronger and not too adverse to fighting dirty ..(sand in the eyes..)

a more fun idea would be the outcome between a samurai and a medival kight :D

Fighting styles don't matter, its the quality of the warrior.

However, samurai tended to be more disciplined and had made war their sole profession. Gladiators tended to pick up combat skills by immersion, and in fact most gladiators didn't last long enough to become truly skilled. So probably samurai.

i will bypass with the Centurions in this because: - The Centurions were extra useful educated to wrestle in battles, i imagine the Samurai might want to have a sturdy danger in a million to at least a million duels. - The Centurions have extra useful adventure with dealing with distinct combatants, even if or not they be Northern Barbarians, Mongol horde or different noticeably educated warriors - in the experience that they were plausible, the Centurions might want to have fought them. - length and stamina, the Romans might want to were bodily higher and more desirable than the Samurai who might want to were able to deflect the blows of alternative Samurai (even although Samurai do not fairly opt for to hammer their swords to a lot), the heavy blows of the Centurians does no longer be so easily deflected, they could probable bat the lighter Samurai to the floor. The Romans are accepted to have marched tremendous distances before and after battles and may want to have more desirable staimina. at the same time as the struggling with starts off the Centurions might want to get into conflict formation, the Samurai might want to attempt to evolve yet no longer fairly getting used to wrestle combatants from overseas places they does no longer be able to evolve. The Centurions might want to take many casualties, although no longer as a lot because the noble Samurai who does no longer be able to back down because of their code of honor, contained in the suited the Samurai might want to be layed to waste. i'm positive Lordbearclaw will be able to tricky extra on the guns and armour.

Samurai lived to fight. Gladiators fought to live. My bet would be on the Samurai. They were masters of their sword-play, cunning, and agile.
