orchids come in all sorts of styles, colors, sizes, etc. Rare flowers can be prone to diseases and can sometimes be problematic to take care of. Take your girl to a garden store or somewhere that sells a variety of live plants and see what really strikes her fancy. Better to buy her something that she really likes and will enjoy than somthing that is rare but she could care less about. Also if available in your area, bonsai, which are trees pruned to stay small are really unique; they do require up keep and pruning so a book telling her how to take care of bonsai would be beneficial. Good luck.

What about a bird of Paradise? And for a tropical climate a more rare orchid as opposed to the common ones would be such a surprise for her. Take you time to research orchids online, there are so many varieties...you can find something really unusual and rare.

My vote is for an orchid. Not sure if they are the most rare, but I know it makes me melt. Like others have said, take your girl to a flower shop or store and see what she really likes. Then you will know what to buy that will make her melt. Good luck.

An Angel trumpet tree is a real showstopper. For a cut flower, I'd suggest white roses or gardenias... White calla lilies are beautiful and can be grown in pots.
