I had my first story...My water broke at 10am but I never started contracting. They gave me pitocen. My labor progressed the contractions were horrible, very bad. My baby ended up in distress, but not because of the Pitocen, it was because he couldn't handle the contractions. His heart rate would drop with each contraction and then I stopped dialating. Without the Pitocen I stopped contracting....period.
I had a c-section at noon the next day. My son's head was turned in the wrong position and while it was possible for him to be born that way, it would have been difficult. His distress was caused by the umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck several times...not the pitocen.
My sister also had pitocen during the birth of her second child. She had a normal vaginal delivery.
I think a lot of the time labor won't start because there is an issue that the pit has nothing to do with. Also the Pit causes Terrible awful contractions and if you get the epidural too soon.....it can stall labor.

I'm one of the c-section stories. It was my first. My daughter was in distress after 24 hours of labor that the pitocin did not speed up at all. It was not an emergency c-section. They had enough time to give me my anesthesia through the epidural.

I had pitocin and had no problems and had a normal delivery. That was with my 1st child. Try not to let others stories scare you. Let you and your doctor decide what is best for you. Ask lots of questions to your doctor. If he/she wants to give you pitocin ask if it is nessasary and what the risks are. Just because you are due doesn't mean they have to rush it. Maybe if dr. thinks it is okay you could wait on the pitocin and try a natural labor inducer.

I was induced 12 days overdue with my son (my second child). I went into the hospital at 9 AM had my water broken at 10:30 then Pitocin at 11:30. Had my son in my arms by 4:30. Was very short compared to my first natural labor of 29 hours...The contractions came VERY hard and fast, but it was over with so quickly that I was up and walking 10 minutes after his birth. I had a good experience wasn't exhausted from a million hours of labor!!! (P.S. No pain meds for the first 3 children) My 4th child I was induced with Cervidil and it was HELL. I labored all day they finally let me rest for the night then tried again 6 AM next morning...had him at 12:30PM after almost a day and a half...

I was given pitocin to induce labor in my 36th week, because I had high blood pressure. This was my 1st and this point only child. It took me 10 hours before I reached to the pushing stage, and spent 3 hours trying to push, with no luck. I had an epidural and a c-section, but the cord was wrapped around the baby twice, but the c-section is very quick and he was just fine !! They can and will moniter you closely and they can do a sonogram to find his/her position. If I had a choice with another one I would go for the c-section again!!

I've been induced 3 out of 4 of my labors, twice with the Pitocin and once with prostiglandin E gel. None of them resulted in c-sections and they all went smooth (thankfully). The only thing I noticed was that labor came on strong with the induction. I had VERY short labors with all of them ( 4 hrs, 2.5 hrs, 1.5hrs> (without induction) and 31 minutes). The only advice I have for you is ask for the epidural as soon as you cannot deal with the contractions, they're life savers! lol

I've only had one child. I was given pitocin to speed up my labor. NO complications during a normal vaginal delivery.
